A Monument a Day #2 - Park of Glory

Парк Слави (Park of Glory)
"Eternal glory to the heroes of the surrounding battles for the freedom and independence of our birth place."

Complete with an eternal flame, the Park of Glory (or Glory Park) remembers those who fought the Germans during The Great Patriotic War (WWII). It is a memorial to all the soldiers of that war, living and dead. Almost every city in Ukraine has some type of memorial like this even if it is just a small simple one in a village. The city of Bila Tserkva was almost completely destroyed between the initial occupation by the Germans and eventual liberation by the Soviet Army. Some parts of the city were involved in heavy fighting involving German and Soviet armor (tank) units. Only a small number of its original buildings have survived.

This area leading toward the large monument is a popular photo site for every new married couple in the city.

The plaque at the entrance reads, "To the warriors that liberated the city of Bila Tserkva and its surrounding area in the years of The Great Patriotic War, thousands of tormented peaceful lives dedicate this memorial complex. Kneel before their feat and memory! They are worthy of immortality!"

The main monument is located at: 49°48'9.10"N 30° 7'9.29"E
